"Gene Fehler is the Shel Silverstein of baseball.  His poems are written for the young--of whatever age--and are a wonderful excursion into beauty, whimsy, fantasy and memory.  These poems are so wonderful, in fact, that they not only will attract poetry lovers to baseball, but they will also attract baseball fans to poetry.  Now that's art."  Steve Gietschier, The Sporting News

"When a phenom like Gene Fehler, the author of the ingenious parodies of classic poems, wanders onto the field unannounced, you find a place for him in the lineup immediately."  Bill Ott, Booklist

"poet Fehler spins iambic pentameter for children"

Each flip of the flap in Goblin Giggles: A Ghastly Lift-the-Flap Book by Gene Fehler and Robert Harrison, illus. by Lee Calderon, offers a more disgusting goblin rhyme as well as a way to pass the time. "Gertrude Goblin likes to spread/ frog intestines on her bread" and the zippers around bile-green Garrett Goblin's ankles make his feet detachable, allowing him to lick between his toes. Calderon's illustrations are frightfully entertaining.
Susan McCaffrey, VOYA
"There is a pleasing diversity of style, from the triumphant adolescent voice of Winner to the almost poignant tone of Throwing It Back. . . (The) collection of parodies is quite remarkable. . . (Center Field Grasses) is a wonderful effort and the parodies themselves make this a welcome addition to humor, English literature, and sports collections."

 Robert Moore, The Book Report
(Center Field Grasses) is a terrific collection of more than 200 poems that deserve an audience. . . The best part of this Oreo cookie of a book is the cream in the center, the second section, the superb 'Parodies of the Classics' . . . In effect, Fehler has given us a core poetry list for students."

 Craig DeVrieze, Quad-City Times
"A breezy collection of clever rhymes and quirky insights that can tickle the baseball-loving child in us all."

Lillian Morrison, Poet/Anthologist

"I am very much impressed with I Hit the Ball!  It belongs in most children's collections around the country.  It deserves a wide audience."

Duff Bruce, The Color Green

"A wonderful book . . . a great gift and memory conjurer."

Kathryn Smith, Anderson Independent-Mail

"Positive and upbeat, focusing on a child's love of the game."

Paul B. Janeczko, Poet/Anthologist

"I Hit the Ball! is loaded with wonderful poems about a wonderful game."

Richard Miller, Sports Collector's Digest

"I Hit the Ball! recalls for youth and adults alike why baseball is so important to kids.  The poems bridge the gap between the children and the adults who play catch with them."
